Today's review on MyOldAddiction.com, Monos by #AlejandroLandes starring #JulianneNicholson, "crisply photographed images add to the terror of a plot whose twists and turns can rarely be predicted"

BEST MUSIC 1986: Master of the keyboard HERBIE HANCOCK put his magnificent jazz career in the hands of French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier and his work won him an Oscar ahead of safer bets like James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith and the perpetually nominated but unrewarded Ennio Morricone. Without Hancock’s work on the gorgeous (and sadly now forgotten) ‘ROUND MIDNIGHT (featuring an Oscar-nominated performance by another great performer of the jazz era, Dexter Gordon), I don’t know if the film would be as accurate a portrayal of the heyday of jazz in Paris as it was. Perhaps I’m betraying my age as a child of the eighties, but I feel that if you whittled the best of the Best Songs down to a mere handful, “TAKE MY BREATH AWAY” from TOP GUN would have to be in the top five; I have a very exact, happy memory of listening to it on the radio in my dad’s car in the middle of winter as we were coming home from a Christmas party. The song was performed by the singing group Berlin but written by GIORGIO MORODER, his third Oscar after Midnight Express (1978) and “Flashdance” (from the film of the same name in 1983) and TOM WHITLOCK.
