Today's review on MyOldAddiction.com, The Steel Helmet by #SamuelFuller, "The irony of how quickly things change in war allows the violence to provoke as much meditation on its morality as it does excitement in the vivid way that it plays out."

BEST MUSIC 1956: The other song that Doris Day sang to Oscar-winning glory is the one with which she is most often associated, and bears the rare distinction of being the only time a Hitchcock movie won a Song Oscar: "WHATEVER WILL BE WILL BE (QUE SERA SERA)", written by JAY LIVINGSTON and RAY EVANS, was such a popular hit that Day sang it again in The Glass Bottom Boat ten years later, and most people don't even remember that she originally used as a method of distraction to help save her kid in Hitch's remake of his own THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (it helps that the endless verses of that song go forever, you can just keep vamping until you catch a killer. Evans and Livingston also won for "Buttons and Bows" (The Paleface, 1948) and "Mona Lisa" (Captain Carey USA, 1950) and were also nominated for "The Cat and the Canary" (Why Girls Leave Home, 1945), "Tammy" (Tammy and the Bachlor, 1957), "Almost In Your Arms" (Houseboat, 1958) and "Dear Heart" (Dear Heart, 1964). Livingston died in 2001 and Evans in 2007. The year's glamorous Best Picture winner, AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, won the Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture Oscar for VICTOR YOUNG, who unfortunately had died only a few months before his first ever win. He had previously been nominated for Army Girl, Breaking The Ice (both 1938), Golden Boy, Gulliver's Travels, Man of Conquest, Way Down South (all 1939), Arizona, The Dark Command, North West Mounted Police, Arise My Love (all 1940), Hold Back The Dawn (1941), Flying Tigers, Silver Queen, Take A Letter Darling (all 1942), For Whom The Bell Tolls (1943), Love Letters (score and Song, 1945), The Emperor Waltz (1948), My Foolish Heart (1949), Samson and Delilah (1950) and Written on the Wind (Best Song 1956). ALFRED NEWMAN was responsible for a distinct sound of strings at Twentieth Century-Fox, you can see a demonstration of it at the beginning of How To Marry A Millionaire, but his finest work for that studio was the film that brought him his 8th Oscar, adapting Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I, the best of the films based on their plays, and sharing a very well deserved Scoring of a Musical Picture Oscar with KEN DARBY:
