Today's review on MyOldAddiction.com, The Laundromat by #StevenSoderbergh starring #MerylStreep, "the outrageous stylistics reveal themselves more as distractions to cover up a lack of substance"

BEST MUSIC 1985: The third category of Adaptation of music was dropped this year, meaning that the delightful accompaniment to John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honour would not win a much-deserved prize, and the category has not since resurfaced despite the Academy’s reassurance that when they have enough candidates that get enough votes they will hand it out again. This left the two remaining categories which, with four years of exceptions in the mid-nineties, have been the Oscars for music since, with the Original Score category going to JOHN BARRY this year for the best work of his career scoring that year’s Best Picture winner OUT OF AFRICA. I heard a piece from this film’s score performed live at a symphony recently, and it’s truly amazing how much it creates images in your mind and a sense of heat and light without your having to actually watch it (it’s one of the most requested instrumental movie pieces on Desert Island Discs, oddly enough). Barry also won for Born Free (1966, score and song), The Lion In Winter (1968), Dances With Wolves (1990) and was nominated for Mary Queen of Scots (1971) and Chaplin (1992). He died in 2011. For Best Original Song, the Academy had the choice of two songs from WHITE NIGHTS and went for the one by LIONEL RITCHIE, “SAY YOU, SAY ME”, making for one of the many opportunities to see pop star’s at the podium in this decade. Ritchie was also nominated this same year for the song from The Colour Purple, "Miss Celie's Blues (Sister)" and was previously nominated for "Endless Love" (Endless Love, 1981).
