With ISIS having overpowered much of Syria and destroyed the city of Raqqa, a group of journalists have reacted to the perpetual destruction by forming a resistance. Calling themselves “Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently”, these young men are dedicated to cutting through controlled and censored media by letting the country and, hopefully, the world know about their oppressors’ atrocities despite the danger it places them in. Matthew Heineman, who previously infiltrated the world of police corruption in Cartel Land, once again goes bravely into perilous territory and gets up close and personal with these unsung heroes, eventually traveling around the world with them as members of the organization must go into exile and do their work from afar. This searing, upsetting film makes a good companion with Last Men In Aleppo.
