The Seminarian

(out of 5)

A student doing his doctoral thesis at a California theological university has to keep his homosexuality on the down low, which he already keeps a secret from his loving mother.  At school he is one of a group of gay students whose faith is not in conflict with their sexuality, in fact this aspect of the story is never more than a bare background for this woefully miscalculated story of one man’s search for love.  Instead, our protagonist spends the film waiting to hear back from an internet date who is not ready to commit while keeping himself distracted with the dramatic romantic entanglements of his friend.  Bad acting and nearly absent direction make for one of the worst in the genre of indie gay dramas.
