The creators of the original film painted themselves into a corner with its ending, not realizing that they were on the brink of one of the most successfully unimaginative franchises of the decade. Putting their thinking caps on and, for that matter, realizing that their audience wasn’t going to be too picky about it anyway, the filmmakers come up with another slice and dicer that sets teenagers up in yet another cabin in the woods and then watches as they go to the slaughter one after the other. This time it’s a retreat of camp counsellors preparing for the summer, located just adjacent to the original Camp Crystal Lake where the mayhem happened last time. The kids are having their fun pairing off and playing games before a tall madman invades their idyll and starts slicing them up in the hopes of getting revenge for the last time. A crafty opening sequence involving  from the first film, a few Psycho references in the conclusion and game, fresh faces in the middle don’t add up to much more than a greedy cash grab, but it’s over with quickly and even at its most uninspired I wouldn’t actually call it boring.
