Solid police procedural written by Janet Green, about the investigation of a young woman who is found stabbed to death in Hampstead Heath.  Police immediately zero in on her boyfriend and interview her brother, looking into the girl’s life and friendships in the hopes of finding clues that lead to her killer.  The surprises that come along are too juicy to give away, but let it be known that the film’s terrific photography of the grimier parts of London, shot in gorgeous colour, are a perfectly apt setting for the themes of racism and urban blight that the film presents.  Basil Dearden’s sturdy direction moves along at a great clip and all the performances are top-notch.
