A desert community in 1916 has its routine daily existence interrupted by the arrival of an English soldier and his Bedouin guide, the two of them asking for help in locating a well that is vital in the war effort against the increasingly weak Ottoman Empire.  A young man, honouring his late father’s reputation for hospitality, agrees to take them, but upon his departure is joined against his will by his little brother, whose perspective is the foundation of this fascinating, moody drama.  It should be a simple trek across the burning sands to their destination, but with their world on the brink of change (somewhere on the other side of the desert, T.E. Lawrence and Prince Faisal are creating an Arab kingdom), there is nothing but surprises ahead.  Genuinely shocking moments of dramatic intensity punctuate the rhythms of a gorgeous, deeply felt coming of age saga, one whose emotional undercurrents are never overstated or melodramatic.
