An astronaut sent beyond earth’s atmosphere in a rocket ship goes far beyond the expectation of his ground crew, launched into outer space and vanishing without a trace. At least that’s what his military brother and Air Force Space Command girlfriend think, not realizing that his return might possibly coincide with a bloodthirsty creature that is roaming the local town, killing all the people and livestock in its path. Everything you love about creature-feature B-movies from the era is on display here, including the villain in the rubber suit and the women who scream in paralyzed horror, but the plotting is not that clever and it’s not as fun as you’d hope.

The Criterion Collection:  #365
