The Third One (El Tercero)

(out of 5)

Argentina’s recent tradition of social realist cinema is applied to a sexual fantasy in this delicious effort by Rodrigo Guerrero, which plays out in three simply worked out acts that unfold with impressive believability.  After chatting online with an established couple about the possibility of them getting together for a threesome, in an extended sequence with computer windows dominating the screen, a young man shows up at their apartment where the three share a charming dinner before heading up to the bedroom for a totally steamy romp in the sack.  There is no complication to the plot and there is not meant to be: just the fact that the indulgence in sexual pleasure results in neither drama nor regret is incredibly refreshing, and the appeal of all three actors helps make it a wonderful way to spend a very sexy 80 minutes.
