On Planet 51, little green men and women live in retro-fifties style neighbourhoods with their Geiger-inspired pet dogs, their young people obsessed with the possibility of life on other planets. This possibility becomes a reality when an Earthling astronaut (voiced by , aka “The Rock”) lands in their backyard and immediately sets out to claim the “alien” place as his own. Bright, colourful animation and cute characters, not to mention a clever set-up, should make for something much more memorable, but the clever set-up is really all this one has going for it; the execution is only passable, and will amuse the kids while boring the adults. Still, it’s harmless fun, and the actors are having a good time with their characterizations.
