The Shore

(out of 5)

This rip-off of Francois Ozon’s Under The Sand is atrociously put together, with a cast of unbelievably awkward actors (except for the two leads), plastic dialogue and meaningless, slow direction by Dionysius Zervos. While vacationing with her grandparents in Atlantic City, a little girl goes missing on the beach and sets her family in a whirl. Her grandmother (, who is really good) goes batty, her grandfather () goes internal, and her young mother () leaves her job in the city to come and live with her parents in the hopes of eventually finding her daughter. It tries to be subtle and probing, but Miko’s flat performance doesn’t convince you that she’s trying to keep living while suffering on the inside; she just seems completely unaware of the situation, and it makes for an aggravating viewing experience.
