Touching comedy-drama about a Hong Kong gambler who really steps into it when he messes with the wrong gangster and ends up owing him a vast sum of money. Circumstances change when the gangster is almost fatally shot, and soon the gambler is being requested to care for his enemy’s little baby while he is recuperating. Having just met a kindly restaurant hostess with whom he has collided in a few twists of fate, he achieves a deep bond with her through watching this charming little infant that has now entered their lives. Wonderful character examinations, but the ungenerous ending pulls the rug out from the under the whole operation by trying too hard to be dramatically effective.
