My Old Addiction

(out of 5)

While not the heaviest on story exposition, this is a thoroughly heartfelt melodrama about a writer () living in a seedy hotel and enjoying a womanizing existence until a beautiful party girl () shows up and turns his life upside down. He writes a science-fiction story about a man who falls in love with an android that has similarities to Leung’s experiences with Zhang, a mysterious gambler () and the hotel manager’s lovestruck daughter. It’s one of the most gorgeous films you’ve ever seen and a worthy successor to In The Mood For Lovewith which it has narrative ties.
