FOREST WHITAKER
Bil’s rating (out of 5): BB.
USA, 1995. Twentieth Century Fox. Screenplay by Terry McMillan, Ronald Bass, based on the novel by Terry McMillan. Cinematography by Toyomichi Kurita. Produced by Deborah Schindler, Ezra Swerdlow. Music by Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Production Design by David Gropman. Costume Design by Judy L. Raskin. Film Editing by Richard Chew.
This adaptation of Terry McMillan’s bestselling novel is about four women overcoming their relationship problems and understanding the strength of their friendship. The film version is hampered by Forest Whitaker’s incredibly lazy direction that seems to take all of its brilliant and beautiful leads (Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Lela Rochon, Loretta Devine) completely for granted. It has some enjoyable moments, though.
