Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt)

(out of 5)

is excellent as a flaming-red-haired moppet who gets a call from her boyfriend saying that he lost a huge amount of money and needs it back in twenty minutes or he’s going to be executed by the gangsters to whom the cash belongs. The film repeats the same twenty-minute scenario three times, in each version showing a different way that Potente goes about trying to get the cash for him. It’s very clever and obviously a lot went into coming up with all the wonderful little tricks that make this movie as crafty as it is, but in the end all you’ve really seen is an exercise in gimmicks that has no personal feeling to it. Still, it’s worthy viewing for those who are curious enough.
