Beautifully animated but overly serious Disney film loosely based on the classic Victor Hugo novel. The Hunchback (voiced by Tom Hulce) is now a lovable, cuddly guy living at the top of a cathedral who offers help to the sexy Esmerelda (Demi Moore) when she inflames the passions of a sexually repressed bishop. A memorable score by Alan Menken and Steven Schwartz is a plus, but most adult viewers will be turned off by the cute supporting characters and pat happy ending that has been tacked on to this gothic classic of literature. Other voices include Kevin Kline and the late Mary Wickes.
