A famous Welsh poet lies wounded on the battlefield at Passchendaele and contemplates his life, remembering his days as a farmer in his peaceful village where he first dreamed of writing poetry. A national prize for writing is what he aspires to, something he works towards until Britain calls him up to join the army and fight in the second World War. This period epic, a biography of the famous poet of the title (Ellis Humphrey Evans was his given name), is elegant and refined, featuring strong direction and a marvelous performance by Huw Garmon in the lead role.
