One of the worst sequels ever made to an excellent film, this messy adventure’s shaggy plot defies all description. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner reunite as the adventurous couple who travel to the Middle East and get involved in the pursuit of a precious artifact known only as “the jewel of the Nile”. Is it actually a gem we’re talking about here? The chemistry between Douglas, Turner and Danny DeVito as their untrusty sidekick is as good as ever, but the direction lacks intelligence and the screenplay is a dull mess. The depiction of casually stereotyped, murderous Arabs borders on the offensive, that is if you’re even bothering to pay attention by that point.
