Dirk Bogarde is wonderful in this exciting adventure set in British Columbia, where he has just arrived from England to claim the title of a small plot of land left to him by his dead grandfather. His grandfather believed he would strike oil on his land but never did, leaving the town disillusioned and in favour of putting their weight behind the company that wants to take Bogarde’s land and build a damn. Bogarde uses all his resources to prevent the takeover and strike oil, but he’s in a race against time: he has been diagnosed with a fatal disease and proving his grandfather’s dream might end up being his last project. The final outcome is a total cheat, but until then the film is a rich drama with gorgeous scenery, wonderful characters and some impressive effects.
