Fascinating drama, based on a true story, about fraternal twin sisters who are separated after the death of their parents. One is sent to live with wealthy relatives in Holland, while the other stays in Germany to live an abused life with her mean-spirited farmer relatives. Years later, the Dutch sister is an educated musical virtuoso, while her sibling is prime fodder for the increasingly popular Nazi party in early 30s Germany. The many places that these sisters’ paths cross provide for a riveting story that is always emotionally complex without ever being sentimental, and the performances are superb.
