Prote (Kevin Spacey) insists he is an alien visiting Earth from the Planet K-PAX. His psychiatrist (Jeff Bridges) is so impressed by Prote’s knowledge of astronomy and current socio-political situations that he is actually entertaining the possibility that Prote is who he says he is. Spacey and Bridges both give performances they could deliver in their sleep, but the graceful direction by Iain Softley (The Wings of the Dove) never oversentimentalizes the story, and the beautiful photography by John Mathieson is an artistic feat of its own. You’ll figure the whole thing out way before the outcome actually happens, but you won’t mind staying until the end all the same.
