Elegant and adventurous adaptation of the famous comic book series and television show. Presumably an opening chapter for a series of films to follow, the film isn’t very strong on its own as it does little more than establish its characters and then offer up a few obstacles towards the end of the film. What it does have to recommend it, though, is a fantastic cast including Anna Paquin, James Marsden and the exceptional Famke Janssen, all of them led by duelling nemeses Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Australian newcomer Hugh Jackman (filling in for Dougray Scott who was injured in a motorcycle stunt for Mission: Impossible 2) is not really charismatic enough for his role as the main hero, Wolverine, but he doesn’t embarrass himself either.
