Diane Keaton is a riot in this charming comedy about a businesswoman who suddenly finds herself in the position of motherhood. After a distant relative dies, a child services employee shows up during a busy work day with infant in tow and tells Keaton that, as she is the child’s only family, she must take her in. Keaton at first resists, but soon manages to work the difficulties of motherhood into her already cluttered social life. The plot goes to weird places, including cottages in Vermont and the creation of an apple sauce empire, but Keaton’s buoyant personality keeps it all afloat and makes for a fun experience.
Golden Globe Award Nomination: Best Picture-Musical/Comedy; Best Actress-Musical/Comedy (Diane Keaton)
