If there is a God, he should do more to help prevent movies like these. In this semi-sequel to the box office hit Bruce Almighty, Steve Carell fills in for Jim Carrey as the next hapless boring white guy who gets a tap on the shoulder from the Almighty (Morgan Freeman, who I hope got a huge pay cheque to appear in this dreck). The Lord tells our hero to build an ark because there’s another flood coming, a most inconvenient project considering that Evan has recently begun his new life as a Congressman and his wife (Lauren Graham) and three sons are feeling alienated from him enough as it is. The story is completely derivative, but there is something fun about watching Carell having to duke it out with the massive amounts of computer-generated animals that come his way. The effects involving the ark and the flood in the last third, however, are disappointing, and only emphasize the overall weakness of this really pointless (and often preachy) film.
