Car Wash

(out of 5)

Thoroughly enjoyable ensemble comedy that covers a day at work with the employees of an L.A. car wash in a loosely plotted, Altmanesque fashion. Celebrity cameos, including , , and , are pluses, but what really draws you in is the catchy soundtrack (especially the memorable title tune) and the sincere range of characters from funny to crazy. Personal problems, romance, practical jokes and even a little crime take up most of the film’s running time, and it’s never dull. Probably the least exploitative of the blaxploitation film movement, and a highlight of underground seventies filmmaking that has deservedly achieved cult status.
