Fans of the two leads are the only people likely to enjoy this boring romantic drama. Natalie Wood plays an eager wannabe actress who impresses a big-time Broadway director (Gene Kelly) and finds protection under his wing. When his own theatrical ventures don’t pan out as well as he’d expected, both their shared personal and professional lives are threatened. It’s been done a million times, and with a lot more passion than this one; its greatest asset is probably the lovely main theme song ‘A Very Precious Love’ crooned by Kelly.
Academy Award Nomination: Best Song (“A Very Precious Love”)
