Neil Simon wrote two hilarious spoofs of traditional murder mysteries, and both are equally funny and worth watching. The first, Murder By Death, was a clever takeoff on classic mysteries of the Agatha Christie vein. The Cheap Detective takes on the genre of forties film noir as private eye tries to outrun the police after they think he murdered his partner. Falk has to clear his name while also seeking out a mysterious statue of a “black bird” that holds the key to his freedom. Cast members , , , and and the unforgettable have a great time spicing up the humorous fun.
