The next entry in the American Pie series of kids doing whatever it takes to get drunk and laid is this hilarious, sometimes even sweet, comedy from the film factory that brought you Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin. Michael Cera and Jonah Hill are high school misfits who get the opportunity of a lifetime when a female friend invites them to her party and enlists them to bring alcohol thanks to their friend’s fake ID. This means the promise of booze and sex for the teenagers, who spend the entire day getting into all manner of bad trouble to accomplish this holy quest, which involves hit-and-run car accidents, some very irresponsible police officers and a so-called “grownup” party that nearly gets them into some serious trouble. The film’s appeal lies mainly in its gentle humour that never goes out of its way to be gross or shocking, and the performances by the young leads are all appealing.
