The toy craze of the early 90s is resurrected in this charming animated film that will definitely distract the youngsters. Leonardo is the leader of the four mutant turtles who haven’t been on the surface of society for a long time, training and preparing under the tutelage of their sensei Splitter (voiced by the late ) until such time as he sees fit for them to resume their superhero duties. It looks as if they’ll be forced into reactivation sooner than expected, however, when they catch wind that an immortal war lord is planning to open up a portal that might unleash unholy monsters on the earth that will devour all humanity. The background animation and that of the four turtles is wonderful, while the humans all look like a bad video game, but the voice work is charming and the overall feeling is light, unimportant and fun.
