USA, 1999. Broadway Pictures, SNL Studios. Screenplay by Steve Koren, based on the character created by Molly Shannon. Cinematography by Walt Lloyd. Produced by Lorne Michaels. Music by Michael Gore. Production Design by Gregory P. Keen. Costume Design by Eydi Caines-Floyd. Film Editing by Malcolm Campbell.
Molly Shannon‘s hilarious Saturday Night Live character Mary Katherine Gallagher gets the big screen treatment in this film that’s about as funny and entertaining as any of the Lorne Michaels-produced SNL films ever get. Shannon is a riot as the Catholic school girl who believes in her heart that she truly has what it takes to be a superstar and stops at nothing to prove it. Glynis Johns is her sweet grandmother who gives her the inspiration to follow her dreams. Nothing remarkable, but a fun way to spend two hours; I especially get a kick out of watching her say her nightly prayers.
