Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell are hit men who have been sent to the picturesque town of Bruges, Belgium to cool their heels after an assignment has gone wrong. Farrell botched his first job and now he’s racked with guilt at the same time that he’s thoroughly bored with what he considers to be a museum of a town. Gleeson is having no end of pleasure seeing the sights that Bruges has to offer while waiting to find out what his coldhearted boss (Ralph Fiennes) has in store for the two of them. The result puts forth a fair share of twists and turns between laughs as debuting feature director Martin McDonagh’s seamless, hilarious, enchantingly original script moves efficiently and energetically amid these wonderful characters’ lives. It’s an excellent caper that literally sparkles with witty performances, razor-sharp dialogue and postcard-pretty photography, and is worth watching again and again.
