The Last Days

BBBB.5

(out of 5)

Harrowing, captivating documentary that centres on the personal recollections of six Hungarian Holocaust survivors. This group of individuals was sent to camps in the last months of World War II, when Hitler knew he was losing the war but decided to put all effort into making sure he accomplished the horrendous project that he had started.  Some historians now believe that had the Nazis put their remaining resources into the actual war effort they probably would have been able to withstand longer and maybe even win. These survivors tell heartbreaking stories of their terrible experiences, but also uplifting ones of their lives now that they are survivors and are able to put what they’ve learned to good use in their lives. This film is a powerful experience, more proof that there is nothing in any Holocaust-themed fictional film that can come close to the reality that the documentary process puts you through.
