After a paramedic is severely injured in the throat during a vicious car accident, she finds herself unable to speak for psychological reasons that, try as she might, she cannot overcome. This drives a wedge between her and her husband that threatens to destroy their marriage unless she is able to regain her confidence and again become the woman he once loved. When she discovers that he has actually found solace in the arms of another woman, she ties her husband to his bed and refuses to let him back into the outside world until their relationship is fixed. His drinking establishment is the host of a bizarre but fascinating animal imitation contest that ends up being the crucial turning point in her journey back towards herself. Performances are excellent in this thought-provoking and moving drama that succeeds because of how well it creates the intimacy between these two very sympathetic characters.
