My Old Addiction

In The Shadow Of The Stars

BBBB

(out of 5)

Exhilarating documentary that takes a look at the oft-unsung treasures of the show business world: the chorus. Directors Allie Light and Irving Saraf take their cameras away from the protagonists and give us a glimpse at the lives of members of the San Francisco Opera Company’s chorus, men and women who have followed their passion for music and singing into their profession and enjoy it without reaping the glory. In some cases they are still pursuing their big break, in others they are happy to have a steady job and like the stability. We get to know their private lives while also getting healthy doses of their work as the film includes beautiful passages from the various (gorgeously costumed) operas that they perform. It’s exceptionally well done and very entertaining.
