This was the last film that Ingrid Bergman made before leaving Sweden and coming to Hollywood, and along with A Woman’s Face is the easiest to find of all her Swedish films. She plays a small town girl who gets romantically attached to a sailor who turns madly jealous when she tries to leave him. He shoots her in a fit of rage, a wound which she recovers from unbeknownst to him. To escape him once and for all, Bergman moves to a new town with a new name, but her cover is threatened when her face starts getting printed all over the newspapers. It’s an interesting drama with a satisfying climax.
