Nothing ruins a wedding day like the bride turning into a giant monster (it usually happens later). After she gets hit by a powerful meteorite right as she enters her nuptial church, that is exactly what happens to Susan (voiced by Reese Witherspoon) in this adorable animated comedy. Immediately taken to a top-secret security prison and housed with three other mutations, Susan (now renamed Ginormica) is incredibly upset about losing her old life and being cut off from her family and her pompous fiance (Paul Rudd). She gets her chance to swing back into life, though, when aliens invade the Earth and she and her fellow inmates, including a mad scientist cockroach (voiced hilariously by Hugh Laurie), a creature from a lagoon (Will Arnett), a brainless blob (Seth Rogen) and an incredibly large caterpillar, are recruited to help save humanity. It seems the alien villain (Rainn Wilson) would like the substance back that Witherspoon ingested in order to become the superpower giant that she is. Adorable winks at bad science-fiction of the past are included in a beautifully designed, thoroughly enjoyable romp that kids and adults will equally enjoy. The one and only Stephen Colbert lends his voice as the clueless President of the United States.
