Twelve Nights (Shap Yee Yeh)

(out of 5)

plays a birthday celebrant who decides to take a tarot card-reading friend at her word and dump her boyfriend thanks to the negative signs she gets from her session. The very same night she befriends one of her best friend’s boyfriends () and starts up a relationship with him. Their private moments, from highly passionate to painfully sour, are detailed in the viewing of twelve separate nights that take place over the period of a year. Delightfully accurate, full of joyfully funny moments as well as painfully awkward ones, all of it kept under tight wrap by the excellent performances and assured direction by newcomer Aubrey Lam (who until this film had only written screenplays).
