In the brief prologue of this touching drama,  learns that he is HIV-positive, which is followed swiftly by his longtime boyfriend () leaving him. After getting us up to speed on his life and relationships, we learn that Roberts has just discovered that he has lesions on his brain and will be out of touch with all reality within a matter of days. Not wanting to become a burden on anyone, and certainly not wanting to become a living corpse, he decides to kill himself with an overdose of medication, preceding it with a huge party where everyone important to him has been invited to say their last goodbyes. Randal Kleiser made this low budget film with friends who worked for very little or no money (many of the actors appeared in movies of his in the past), including a stunning  as Roberts’ best friend, who looks better now than when she starred in Kleiser’s film version of Grease. , , ,  and  are also among the cast members, though the truly standout performance (besides Roberts himself, who does a bang up job) comes from as our protagonist’s broken-hearted Greek mother. It’s not a huge film in any way, and thanks to this and the excellent acting comes across a truly loving dedication and lament to those many millions who lost their lives so tragically to this awful disease.
