Rowan Atkinson, playing a character who is basically Mr. Bean with dialogue, is a low-level employee of MI-6 who is recruited into action when every single agency spy is mysteriously murdered and he is the only person left to defend Her Majesty’s crown. It turns out to be a literal assignment when it is revealed that nefarious French villain John Malkovich intends to take over the throne and claim the Queen’s jewels for himself. Watching Atkinson unravel the mystery and then get the bad guy is a deadly bore, a cliche-riddled spoof full of James Bond rip-offs that have already been done a million times over. Small children might enjoy the idiocy, but anyone with more than half a brain is advised to steer clear.
