Sexy, erotic drama features gay-porn star François Sagat giving a heartfelt performance as half of an estranged couple. When Omar (Omar Ben Sellem) travels to New York for the premiere of his film with actress Chiara Mastroianni (luminously playing herself), Emmanuel (Sagat) is left alone in their apartment. Christophe Honore follows both characters around both cities, observing Emmanuel’s banal interactions with friends and neighbours between attempts to fill the emotional void with sex, while Omar’s adventures in the Big Apple are purely observed through the character’s video camera as he spends time with Mastroianni and a young French Canadian boy he picks up from the sidewalk. It’s got graphic sex and nudity, but it isn’t trashily exploitative; instead it’s a surprisingly sweet, short and meditative look at the end of love that is buoyed by terrific performances and a sensitive attitude towards its characters.
