Mexico, 1985. Clasa Films Mundiales. Screenplay by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, based on the novel by Jorge Lopez Paez. Cinematography by Miguel Ehrenberg. Produced by Manuel Barbachano Ponce. Production Design by Daniel Varela. Film Editing by Luis Kelly.
Delightful comedy of eros in which a Mexican doctor keeps his relationship with his music student boyfriend secret from his domineering mother. When mother tells her son that he needs to get married, he goes along with the idea to avoid conflict despite his loved one’s misgivings. Thankfully he has a wonderfully modern gal to ask to fill the bride position, and when his mother asks the boyfriend to live with them and be near his “best friend”, the situation appears to look pleasing enough for everybody. Jaime Humberto Hermosillo’s adorable souffle is sexy, funny and charming, attacking ideas of cultural norms with very little obvious effort and entertaining its audience throughout.
