Rebecca De Mornay had a brief flirtation with stardom in the early nineties with the release of this popular thriller. After she loses her baby in the stress following her doctor-husband’s suicide, she decides to take revenge on the woman (Annabella Sciorra) she blames for his death. Posing as a nanny, she sets out to enact diabolical plans for Sciorra’s little daughter, whose kindly parents don’t suspect a thing. DeMornay’s icy beauty is perfectly cast in this entertaining little film, but there’s nothing to set it apart from any other child-in-distress thriller like Fatal Attraction. Julianne Moore fans will get a kick out of seeing her in an early role that involves her meeting a not so pleasant encounter in a greenhouse.
