Part of that wonderful school of eastern cinema that focuses on the moments between when things actually happen, with directors like Jia Zhangke making something bewitching out of the calm realism that they observe. This subtle charmer focuses on two young men trying to keep busy despite being unemployed, with one of them becoming fixated on a local singing star while the other is dating a university student. They shop, they walk, they contemplate, and it all looks terrific and holds your interest throughout.
