One of Ron Howard’s best movies and a wonderful opportunity to see  at her most charming. She plays a mermaid who wanders out of the sea and straight into the life of New York City businessman .  At first not knowing the language, she learns English from television and proceeds to win over everyone around her until her origins become known and she becomes a freak show for television cameras. Hanks is madly in love with her, gradually coming to the realization that she was the mysterious sea creature who once saved him from drowning as a boy and again as an adult. The screenplay by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel is their best collaboration, a sparkling gem of romance, fantasy and comedy.
