Pauline At The Beach (Pauline A La Plage)

Pauline At The BeachBBBB

(out of 5)

One of Eric Rohmer’s most delightful comedies. Fifteen year-old Pauline () visits a beachside town with her cousin Marion () during the autumn season when the shores are empty of vacationing crowds. Both of them find romance, but both of them have their opportunities ruined by the interference of a sexual adventurer () who is only after his own pleasure. This interrupts Pauline’s courtship with an earnest young man as well as Marion’s chances with an eager surfer. The locations are beautiful, the conversations plentiful and the characters all loveable. A very enjoyable trifle.
