Bil’s rating (out of 5): BBB. USA, 1919. D.W. Griffith Productions. Screenplay by D.W. Griffith, based on the story by Thomas Burke. Cinematography by G.W. Bitzer. Produced by D.W. Griffith. Music by Louis F. Gottschalk. Production Design by Joseph Stringer. Film Editing by James Smith.
D.W. Griffith’s story about an unfortunate young woman (Lillian Gish) isn’t worth the ninety minutes it takes to get through it, nor is it a buried treasure of any kind. It does has its charms, mostly just for the opportunity to watch the great Miss Gish in action, one of the first women actors to produce her own films.
