Overly long and messy but visually stunning tribute to the period of seventies glam rock. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays a Ziggy Stardust-like singer whose death during a concert performance leads many of his closest fans and admirers to suspect he may have staged it as a publicity stunt. Christian Bale decides to investigate the matter personally, and so interviews Rhys-Meyers’ good friend (Toni Collette) and ex-lover (Ewan McGregor) to find out more of a back story on this stunning musical icon whom he himself worshipped as a teenager. The music is first-rate, as are Sandy Powell’s costumes, but you’ll be tired of it long before it’s over.
