A beautiful singer (Vanna Barba) gets mixed up with an ambitious farmer who wants to break into music production. He takes her to the big city and away from her father’s traveling music troupe, gets her into the recording studio and then ruins his own life with gambling and violence. Meanwhile, a mute clarinet player named Orpheus becomes the star attraction of her father’s group, and only he can understand her enough to save her soul. Much too melodramatic, with ragged production values and overripe acting, with one saving grace being a wonderful soundtrack. Barba can’t lip-synch well enough to convince us that she’s really singing, but her dubbed voice sounds beautiful.
