The Olson twins have grown up and become ladies in this impressively stupid comedy, which they also co-produced. While one of them (I don’t know which one’s which, so your guess is as good as mine) prepares for an important speech that might get her a scholarship into Oxford, the other is planning to skip school and appear in a rock music video. They take the train into New York City and go on a series of misadventures that take them from bickering opposites to best friends. The whole good twin/bad twin setup is easy enough to criticize as painfully overdone, but somehow the girls’ easygoing charm doesn’t allow it to ever get too painful. Don’t mistake that for a recommendation; it’s not the worst you’ve ever seen, but only its target audience will appreciate it fully. It’s just nice to see a movie aimed at kids that doesn’t descend into toilet humour every five seconds, even if it does indulge in stupid racial stereotypes and cheesy heart-to-heart moments. completely embarrasses himself in a terrible performance as a truancy officer who is after the bad one for constantly skipping school; he’s usually the saving grace of even the worst movies, but here he’s a downer.
